SNEAK PREVIEW – KATIE + MATT [ENGAGEMENT SHOOT, DERBY]

I’ve just come back in from an engagement shoot, and having spent the last half an hour sifting through the results, I just had to share a few of them straight away. This is Katie and Matt, I’ve known them for a good few years now, and I honestly can’t think of a more genuine, honest and just down right lovely couple, it was a real pleasure to work with them and hopefully they’ll be pleased with the shots. I already can’t wait to show them the rest…

The ‘Not to plan’ Baby portrait sessions

Usually, in fact 99.9% of the time (so pretty much most of the time), photographers capture babies giggling, chuckling and just generally being content. Now, with having a new blog and all, I thought, lets get some of those pictures and put them up for all to see. Betsy is 9 weeks old now, I’m sure some friends and family would love to see a little update on how she’s progressing (she’s very long folks!), and what better way to show them?! So, after her morning wash and change, and given she’s generally alert and awake for an hour or so after this, it was the ideal time to get a few shots…… No it wasn’t, she did not want to play ball. Now, at first, I thought I’ll delete those and try again later, but then I had a change of heart…. she’s crying, she laughs and giggles most of the time, but she doesn’t cry that often (gosh we’re lucky!!), so why should I delete them, why should I not share them?! I’m sure over the coming weeks and months, I’ll take dozens, if not hundreds of shots of Betsy doing what all babies do best, but this is what Betsy was doing on Friday morning at 10am:

JENNY + BRETT – [WEDDING, ASTON]

The wedding season is under-way, its spring, the flowers are in bloom, and as expected, its chucking it down with rain!! Hopefully not for much longer mind.

So, whilst I sit here and begin preparations for the summer ahead, looking out on a dreary day, I thought I’d brighten up my *new* blog with some shots of last years highlights, starting with Jenny and Brett, a glorious day in the heart of the summer, full of great moments and people, it really was a wedding that was enjoyed by all….. I’m looking forward to a few more of these this year.

The Day Everything Changed – [Royal Hospital, Derby]

Well, they say the birth of your first child (and I’m sure the birth of any children!) are special days, and whoever ‘they’ are, they’re not wrong!! It all started on a friday night late in February 2012, and I won’t bore you with the details, but the signs were there… Jemma was adamant that nothing was going to be happening on the Saturday and insisted I went to the football, and rather reluctantly I obliged. I wish I hadn’t now, they lost 2-1 at home to Forest, however, the result was soon to be quickly erased as no sooner had we exited the ground, a call came in from Jemmas mum, thats right, you guessed it!! Knowing we were about an hour from home, me and my dad (whose running days are slightly behind him now!) put our foot down and sprinted for the car, we had to stop a couple of times bless him!! But we made it, got back to Derby just in time to make a move for the Royal Hospital, where we got settled down for the night ahead……. fast forward 6 hours or so (you really don’t need me to tell you what happened in that window), and at 1:30 on the Sunday morning, along came little Betsy, this is for her;
