When Jimi called me up one day, and asked ‘would you be able to come and take….’ he didn’t even need to finish the sentence, I’d already said yes!! Because I know that Jimi is the proud owner of a fully restored 1966 VW Deluxe Microbus (aka a Samba, aka a split screen camper, aka a camper van!!). Granted, he might have been calling to ask if I could take some portraits of his son George, or maybe even a family portrait, which I’d have obviously said yes to, but I know Jimi!! …and as you’ll see from the pictures below, he takes great pride and joy in his camper, and why wouldn’t he, she’s an absolute beauty!!
Its always available for wedding hire, you can get in touch with Jimi via the VW DAYS website.
If you’ve always thought canal boats are for retired folk, think again…. When the suns shines there aren’t many better places to be than on the back deck of a boat with a cold bottle of beer in hand….. This was our weekend;
Kids are mental!! After an hour running around (more like trying to catch up) with these 2, I needed a lie down!! There were numerous occasions where no sooner had I caught up with them and fired off a few frames, they were off again, off down another little path and through more trees into secret little hidings. I suspect their dad had been feeding them on high energy sports drinks before we arrived!! Fortunately for me, there was a brilliant cafe, and it was nothing that a hearty bacon and brie sarnie couldn’t fix! Although my legs do ache a little this morning, it was worth it for these shots – this is Polly and Louie Barton, 2 wonderfully adorable children…
I got home from this wedding at Morley Hayes, late on a Saturday night at the beginning of May, it had been a long day; my legs, back and feet were feeling the strain, but I arrived home with a huge grin on my face! I’d absolutely loved it. Sara and Dave couldn’t have made me feel more welcome, by the end of the night, I felt like I was a guest at one of my own friends weddings. Everyone was brilliant, the food was stunning, the wine flowing (the brides mother polished off the best part of 6 bottles, no lie!!), but most of all, they were a great couple, celebrating their big day with close friends and family, and it was a pleasure to be part of. Congratulations Sara and Dave.
To those of you reading this that already know Carl, for which there will be many, he needs no introduction. For those of you that aren’t so lucky, well, where do I start?! The first thing that springs to mind is that you couldn’t say a bad word about the guy, he genuinely is one of the warmest and kind hearted people I know. He’s the sort of person that wouldn’t even stop to think about helping a complete stranger, he just would. And thats what I find truly amazing about Carl, he always always puts other people first, never himself. He’s also the kind of guy that sticks to what he says, if he says he’s going to do something, he’ll do it, no question.
The pictures below only further illustrate this level of kindness and commitment, and even though you may have already looked at them and said ‘what a scruff bag’ or, ‘he needs a shave’ or, ‘tramp’ (which i’m sure he will agree, he’s heard people whisper behind his back on a few occasions!!), your opinion will more than likely change when you find out he’s doing all of this for charity!! On December 5th 2011, Carl decided to embark upon ‘A year of hair’ – a full 12 months without shaving, cutting or trimming any of his body hair, all for 2 very good causes (McMillan Cancer Research and Air Ambulance). There were obviously some doubters, and understandably so, but 5 months in, and knowing Carl as I do, he was never going to bail from the concept. So, below you will see a collection of portraits from a drink we shared yesterday. Over the coming month or so we’ll be launching a website and allowing people to donate online (the current total stands at just over £1’000), and we really hope you’ll all be able to help spread the word and generate the buzz Carl deserves, so watch this space.
In the meantime, please check out his Facebook page to be kept upto date with the latest news, and please tweet, retweet, share and pin this blog, it all helps.
